Camp Howdy has been the camp of choice for thousands of girls in Bryan/College Station since 1956. Camp Howdy is a roughly 64-acre primitive camp located in Bryan. Every June, Howdy Day Camp has a new, exciting theme and a chance for girls from kindergarten to 6th grade to have a great time in the outdoors for a week. The camp is entirely volunteer-run; its volunteers include 7th graders through high school graduates who act as “Aides” to the camp, the camp directors, and the Camp Howdy Crew, which does trail-clearing and builds some terrific structures to be used by the campers.
While the Day Camp is the main draw, Camp Howdy hosts many events throughout the year, such as Fall Campout, Cast Iron Cook-off, and FoxFire, as well as many troop camping events. Oftentimes, troops of both Girl and Boy Scouts perform community service projects for the camp, such as the construction of an ADA accessible latrine or the clearing of trails to the Ginger Freeman wildlife area.
