HDC – Youth Protection Training

Youth Protection Training is required every 2 years by the state of Texas for youth camps. There are several ways to complete the training.

For returning volunteers, if you completed the training last year (i.e., 2023) the Adult Registrar should have a record of it. Verify when you submit your health forms or send an email to check.

If your training is more than 2 years old or if you have never been trained, you need to find a course to take. Here are suggested options:

  • Girl Scout of Central Texas Option. The Girl Scouts of Central Texas has developed an online course that includes 8 short videos. It will take 1 hour of uninterrupted time. You will receive a certificate after completing the course that will need to be provided to the Adult Registrar via email or paper copy. The course is available at: https://girlscoutsusa.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8eksKiKXnsxoFYq
  • Boy Scouts of America. The training from BSA is an option. You need to create an account to take the training. Additional information is available at: https://www.scouting.org/training/youth-protection/.
  • Other. There are other approved courses available. You can find the approved list of programs published by the Department of State Health Services by going to: https://www.dshs.texas.gov/cpm/training.shtm and then downloading the PDF document (updated 11/16/2021). Look for courses that starts with YC (rather than CMP) and that have an expiration date beyond 2022.
